In the beginning

1971 – 1981 //

It was a ‘frantic’ time, a lot was fortuitous – right time, right place with support from ‘believers’. Equally, a determination to bring the music to a mass audience through their passion for preserving and promoting Australian culture was unquestioned as was their belief that the music was ‘weapon’ for social and intellectual change.

The Bushwackers were swept up in the wave of enthusiasm.

STORIES FROM THE DECADE 1971 – 1981

When we took the lagerphone to the world stage  //

Across the waters – England, Ireland, France, there was a serious folk revival going on with a number of artists revisiting and reinvigorating their traditional material.  Foremost among them – for us, was Fairport Convention, who had ‘gone electric’ and were producing some amazing music.  They weren’t alone and Steve at Readings Records in Carlton notified us when the new releases arrived.  It was a special band day when we grabbed the latest and retreated to out Clifton Hill (39 Delbridge Street) shared house to listen and be inspired.

We wanted to be part of the action!

Hidden for three decades

'Unofficial' recordings //

When boxes of old tapes that had been stored in an attic for decades resurfaced, swags of 'unofficial' recordings from the band's past live and unreleased studio performances were found.  It's a unique window into the style, power and enthusiasm of the band over the decades, collectively titled, The Lost Attic Tapes
