There are only a few Australian music artists who manage to enjoy an extensive performance and recording career over five decades. Yet The Bushwackers, with an extensive back catalogue of music recordings and performance diversity, have etched a legacy across bush/traditional music, folk/roots, country and bush dance with the driving force of playing an unashamed repertoire of Australian musical stories & tunes.
IN THE BEGINNING
1971 – 1981 //
It was a ‘frantic’ time, a lot was fortuitous – right time, right place with support from ‘believers’. Equally, a determination to bring the music to a mass audience through their passion for preserving and promoting Australian culture was unquestioned as was their belief that the music was ‘weapon’ for social and intellectual change, The Bushwackers were swept up in the wave of enthusiasm.

THE WORLD STAGE
1981 – 1991 //
The Dance Book, brought the band to the attention of major label CBS and on the back of the European folk revival, the band went ‘electric, with drums and guitars, introducing Roger Corbett to the lineup while and. a surge of bush dancing that sweep the nation.
The revival years
1991 – 2001 //
A reunion, revitalisation and re-group. The 90’s find the band with a new place to home at the Longyard Hotel at the Tamworth Country Music Festival and marked a decade of touring and performance innovation.
songwriting & recording years
2001 – 2011 //
New original Australian songs, themes and anthems dominated the decade with recordings and Golden Guitar nominations while mid-decade the band was introduced to ‘Nashville music city for the first time.
LEGACY AND RECOGNITION
2011 – 2021 //
After four decades of music shared around the world, the band releases I am Australian. Co-written by Dobe Newton in 1987 and never before recorded by the band, the anthem solidifies the band’s repertoire with fans.
