1971 – 1981

THE EARLY YEARS

With an unquestionable belief that music was a ‘weapon’ for social and intellectual change, The Bushwackers Band were determined to bring their style of music to a mass audience.

1981 – 1991

THE WORLD STAGE

On the back of a European folk revival, a major record label signed the band and they went ‘electric, while a surge of bush dancing that sweep the nation.

1991 – 2001

THE REVIVAL YEARS

A breakup and reunion found the band with a new place to call home at the Tamworth Country Music Festival and marked a decade of touring and performance innovation.

2001 – 2011

SONGWRITING & RECORDING YEARS

New original Australian songs dominated the decade finishing it with a Golden Guitar win, and an introduction to ‘Nashville music city for the first time.

2011 – 2021

LEGACY & RECOGNITION

After four decades of music shared around the world, the band releases I am Australian. Co-written by Dobe Newton in 1987 and never before recorded by the band, the anthem solidifies the band’s repertoire with fans. In 2020 The Bushwackers were inducted into the CMAA Tamworth Country Music Hall of Fame.
